Fifth graders are ready to begin creating a brochure using Microsoft Publisher. We will spend the next couple of weeks publishing brochures.
Fifth graders will begin a new research project this week. Students will browse various ecosystems and then select one they will use to create a brochure on. Students will focus on finding biotic factors, abiotic factors, affects, food webs, and interesting facts about the biome they research.
Students will use the research notes they've written so far to formulate an answer to their essential question. Fifth graders will also create a bibliography for their project.
This week, fifth graders are selecting key words from their question to assist them in searching for resources to help them answer their question. Students are focusing on taking notes with key ideas and details, but not writing full sentences. This technique helps them put the information into their own words and safe guards against plaigarism.
This week we will review how to write a research question, practice writing questions as a group, and formulate a question about a place each fifth grader selects on their own.
Fifth graders were introduced to NearPod last week and learned the importance of giving credit to the source. This week we will continue by beginning a lesson devoted to how to cite a site.
