Now that fifth graders have learned basic research skills and how to follow The Big 6 research model, they will be working with a partner to complete an Information Literacy Collaboration project on explorers. During this collaboration project, students will be asked to write essential questions, identify keyword search terms, locate informational text and digital reference resources to assist in answering the essential question, create MLA citations for their sources, evaluate one digital source, record two facts that help them answer their question, and reflect on the process (how it went and what to improve on for future research projects). This project will help students use The Big 6 with a partner and identify strengths and weaknesses with their research skills before having to complete an independent project.
Essential Questions:
Fifth graders will learn how to develop an essential question to guide their research this week.
Research Skills in Action:
Fifth graders will review how to identify key words in a question and use those as search terms.
Students will also get a review lesson on how to use eRead Illinois this week. Letters will be coming home with children as they are introduced to eReadIL throughout the week. Please be sure to visit our informational site under the Parents tab devoted to e-books for more information. |
